April 2006 witnesses an exciting moment for Prof. PAN Jianwei and his colleagues with the Department of Modern Physics at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). The Physical Review Letters, one of the top physical journals in the world , has just published their novel scheme on quantum key distribution, a technique capable of overcoming errors caused by the birefringence in optical fiber or misalignment. This news comes just weeks after Pan's winning the CAS Outstanding S&T Achievement Prize in 2005, nailing down a further milestone on Pan's fruitful exploration into quantum communication and cryptography.
