摘要

An investigation on the ecological evolution and regional development of Lop Nur in northwest China's Xinjiang was applauded at an expert panel meeting held on 10 June in Beijing.rnLop Nur, once a sprawling saline lake, lies in the Tarim Basin to the east of the vast Taklamakan Desert, one of the most barren areas in China. It was well known in history because of its key position on the ancient Silk Road. Although Chinese and foreign explorers had made a number of expeditions there over the past century, most failed to reach its heartland because of the difficult access and harsh natural conditions, leaving many scientific puzzles.
