Pharmacology of tetrandrine and its therapeutic use in digestive diseases

Tetrandrine (Tet) is a dibenzylisoquinoline alkaloid isolated from Stephania tetrandra S.Moore, a chinese herbal medicine. In the past decade, lots of studies demonstrated that Tet has multiple bioactivities. It is promising to use Tet as an antifibrogenetic in linver or lung fibrosis with or without portal or pulmonary hydrtension, as well as an immunomodulating and anticarcinoma drug.
