摘要

Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumo-nia (CBPP) is a contagious disease affecting the lungs and pleura of cattle and other closely related ruminants and is caused by an infective organism called Mycoplasma mycoides. In Africa, the disease remains one of theprincipal causes of poor performance of the livestock sub-sector and the gap between supply and demand of meat and milk in the continent. The disease had plagued cattle in Europe and elsewhere during the 19th Century as well as in the early decades of the 20th Century. The disease has been eradicated in many parts of the world.
