Liberia needs ore capacity

In August, ArcelorMittal completed the detailed feasibility study on expanding its iron ore production in Liberia. It has already submitted its expansion plans to the government, which are in marked contrast to the situation in neighbouring Sierra Leone, where iron ore production has been shut down and heavy haul locomotives shipped out of the country. Improvements to port and rail infrastructure will be needed if ArcelorMittal is to triple its iron ore production from 5 Mtpa to 15 Mtpa as planned.
