Namibia starts manganese exports

The Namibian port of Luederitz has begun to ship manganese mined in South Africa and transported to the port by rail. The first train of 20 wagons arrived in August, carrying 520t, and initial rail capacity of 0.36 Mtpa is being provided. The ore was moved to the port by rail from mines in South Africa's Northern Cape Province, crossing the border into Namibia at Ariamsvlei. The railway between Aus and Luederitz had been disused for more than two decades but has now been rehabilitated.
