The Moroccan state-controlled OCP Group has ambitious plans to increase its already sizeable share of Africa's fertiliser market. Its strategy is based on exporting more raw materials from its mines in Morocco, building additional processing and blending plants nearer to its customers, and improving the supply chain. Its largest planned investments comprise a large (1 Mtpa output) ammonia-producing plant in Nigeria and a fertiliser complex in Ethiopia that will have an annual production capacity of 2.5 Mtpa. In addition, the group intends opening new fertiliser blending facilities in Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria (three units) and Rwanda. According to OCP, between US$8M and US$12M will be invested in each plant.
