Belarus striving to become seafaring nation via Dnieper

Landlocked Belarus has been in talks with potential developers including Turkey's De-rin Shipping & Trading Co concerning the construction of a new port on the banks of the Dnieper River, just about 500m from the Ukrainian border. As the Dnieper flows through Belarus and Ukraine into the Black Sea, the new harbour would enable Bela-rusian industrial producers to transport their exports, such as fertilisers, construction materials and petrochemicals, by seagoing river ships to Turkey and further to the Mediterranean markets.
