Wheel loaders take on a green look

Volvo CE have been investigating environmentally friendly drive systems for some time and has now introduced the L220F Hybrid wheel loader, which the Swedish manufacturer claims not only has a lower emission level than the standard L220F design but also a 10% lower fuel consumption. The hybrid drive train, which Volvo terms HybrilPower, comprises a normal Volvo D120 diesel engine incorporating V-ACT technology which also has the ability to run on bio-die-sel. It is directly coupled to an electrical generator/motor, which in turn drives the automatic power shift transmission through the same shaft line.
