Hamburg to benefit from new bridge

The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has announced the start of construction work on a new bridge over the Rethe canal. The new 100m long, double-armed balance bridge will be built a few metres from the existing lift-bridge, and has been designed with separate lanes for rail and road. The advantage of this design, says the HPA, is that hydraulic balance bridges can be operated very economically, arc reliable in operation and have lower maintenance costs.
