In May last year the UK Port of Blyth announced plans for Renewable Energy Systems (RES) to develop a 100MW biomass power station on the site of the former Bates Colliery, a scheme costing upwards of ￡200M requiring the import of up to 0.5 mtpa of wood chip and pallet biomass.
