India's coal imports set to double on power demand

India's demand for steam coal is set to remain ro bust during 2010, with some market observers forecasting imports at least doubling to at least 110 mt by 2014. Figures for 2009 put the country's imports at between 43 mt and 55 mt.rnUnderpinning this predicted increase is India's growing electricity consumption, currently at about 600TWh annually, which has been forecast to double by 2020, surpassing Russian levels in the process.
