K Line bags Japan grain contract

K Line has signed a deal with Japan's National Federation of Agricultural Co-operative Associations (JA Group) to transport grain in a dedicated fleet of Panamax and Handysize vessels. Japan's third largest carrier said that it expects to transport around 2 mtpa of grain, mainly from New Orleans and the northwest regions of the U.S. and Australia. JA distributes around 25 mt of grain every year. K Line bulk carrier group general manager Kenji Sakamoto said the longest contract period was for ten years for which the company would deploy a newbuilding vessel due for delivery this autumn from a Japanese shipyard.
