The European market for continuous ship unloaders (CSUs) is quiet at the moment, with very few inquiries. The power utilities, rather than independent bulk stevedores, tended to be the main users. In the UK for instance, which only has two laige coastal coal-fired power plants supplying the country's electrical grid network, both are fitted with CSUs. However, one of these two stations, Kingsnorth, is destined for closure and its cleaner replacement refused planning permission, while the other, the 750MW Tilbury B, is switching to biomass burn and will employ pneumatic unloading systems for its 7.5 mt annual requirement. The current focus on biomass burning for power generation has done little to generate any interest, with the major plants opting for pneumatic or grab handling.
