Siemens industrial wireless LAN

Siemens has installed its industrial wireless LAN on a log handling crane at the timber yard of Schilliger Hotz AG in Kussnacht am Rigi in Switzerland. Schilliger Hotz processes around 2,500 cubic meters of wood daily and wanted to eliminate a major source of crane downtime. The crane previously used an Ethernet cable in the festoon system to carry data from the machinery house to the crane cab, but it was prone to failures and electromagnetic interference.
