Most operators would agree that it is beneficial to reduce the carbon footprint of wheel loaders. But the cost and complexity of doing so can make the additional investment unattractive, particularly for the latest generation fitted with Tier 4i engines. But if the US federal government imposes fuel-economy regulations on off-road machines in order to cut greenhouse gases -and many expect that it will at some point - then hybrids will offer a solution. Although some regions would not follow the US example, it is likely that Europe would, thus strengthening the case for hybrid drives.
