Australia's newest and only "independent" bulk grain terminal will incorporate a container packing facility -just as changed market conditions see a drift back to bulk. The Newcastle Agri Terminal (NAT) is due to begin operations early next year, about six months behind the original schedule, and will have 60,000t of storage and a loading capacity of 2,000 tph. The proposed container packing facility will be able to fill 6,000 TEU/yr, most of which will be shipped through Newcastle where total container exports currently amount to only around 8,000 TEU/yr, or Sydney's Port Botany.
