ZPMC inks iron ore barge deal

ZPMC has won a contract to design, fabricate, deliver and unload 128 iron ore barges for Brazil's Gi-rocantex Sociedad Anonima. The contract is worth US$114M and the barges will be delivered over 2013 and 2014. They will be operated by Hidro-vias di Brasil SA and used to transport up to 3.2 Mtpa of ore from Vale's mining operation in Corumba over the Parana-Paraguay waterway. "This is the largest hull fabrication contract the company has ever signed" ZPMC said in a statement.
