Sishen line capacity boost?

Kumba Iron Ore and South African transport utility Transnet are in talks over expanding the handling capacity of the railway running from the Northern Cape iron ore mines to the Atlantic port of Saldanha. Kumba's current capacity allocation on the Sishen line is 44 Mtpa out of a total of 60 Mtpa. Kumba CEO Norman Mbazima hopes to increase this figure to 59 Mtpa out of planned increased capacity of 83.8 Mtpa by 2019. Transnet is to invest R19.3B (US$1.95B) in the railway over that period, plus R8.67B in Saldanha itself, although this includes the development of oil industry services, too.
