German firms face decline

German mining equipment manufacturers are facing a 33% decline in revenue to €3.5B this year, while domestic sales will fall by 20% to €320M, according to the VDMA Mining Association. Falling raw material prices have hit equipment makers hard, said association chair- man, Dr Paul Rheinlander, who added that the industry has scaled down production, with short-time working and some redundancies now unavoidable.
