Glencore has signed an agreement with the government of Mauritania to access rail and port infrastructure, access which was previously restricted to state owned Societe Nationale Industrielle et Min-iere (SNIM). Glencore and SNIM are jointly developing two iron ore mining projects, Guleb El Aouj and Lebthein- ia, in the north of the country, while Glencore is funding the development of the Askaf mine independently. The two joint developments will have peak production capacity of 22.5 Mtpa and are expected to be in production for at least the next 25 years.
