China investment for Congo

China Road and Bridge Corporation has been awarded a contract to develop new bulk terminals at the Port of Pointe Noire in Congo-Brazzaville. A new railway is being constructed from Pointe Noire to iron ore mines in the east of the country, probably with spur lines to other new iron ore mines in neighbouring states. Oil, general cargo and breakbulk terminals plus an industrial park will also be developed. The railway will have handling capacity for 45 Mtpa and was originally scheduled for completion in 2016. Likely customers include Exxaro Resources and Glencore Xstrata.
