Rhenus Bulktec for containers

Rhenus Logistics in Germany is offering an application called Bulktec as a way of transporting a range of dry bulk commodities in standard steel containers, instead of having to use more expensive dedicated bulk containers. The Bulktec system comprises a plastic coated liner bag, into which the cargo is loaded from a silo with an air blower. At the discharge point, the process is reversed. The system is claimed to be particularly suitable for bulk cargo that creates a lot of dust and/or has poor free-flowing characteristics. Typical examples are paint pigments, cereals, sugar, cement, fertilisers and dry fuels. The loading/unloading process is said to take around 30 minutes. "The real secret behind this new technique is the significantly higher utilisation of load-carrying capacity," said Georg Fank, MD of a dedicated new division of Rhenus Logistics, Rhenus Bulktec GmbH. "Using 20ft or 40ft containers enables us to combine a wide variety of cargo shipments and this reduces transport costs significantly."
