Minister leans on energy firms to end ECO payment delays

The energy minister has written to the big energy firms pressuring them to end delays in payment to contractors which have completed energy efficiency work under the government's Energy Companies Obligation programme. Under the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) scheme the big energy firms have obligations to mitigate carbon emissions and cut consumer bills by funding energy efficiency work, such as insulating cavity walls. But installers have complained they are not being paid for work they have completed, with delays of several months reported.
