Government 'must fund more apprenticeships'

The government has been urged to do more to increase the number of apprenticeships in the UK or face a worsening skills crisis, as UK construction firms ramp up their training programmes in order to meet demand, writes Tim Clark. A number of construction firms this week reported they were having to turn away hundreds of applicants from their own apprenticeship schemes, despite increasing places, as a commons select committee report said the government needed to improve the funding regime for apprenticeships.
