Investors cheer as profit at Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon soars

Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon have both posted big leaps in profit for 2016, brightening the mood of housing investors after Bovis' disappointing results last week. Taylor Wimpey posted a 22% rise in pre-tax profit to £733m for last year, up from £603m in 2015, while Persimmon's pre-tax profit increased 23% to £774.8m, up from £629.5m. Both firms also said customer demand had been resilient since last year's Brexit vote.
