Construction on a new office building in Madrid for Acciona, the Spanish sustainable infrastructure and energy company, is in full swing. The project seeks to revitalise an abandoned natural gas plant built in 1905, creating a sustainable exemplar for building reuse and breathing new life into the surrounding area. The new proposals will conserve over 10,000 tonnes of brick while the timber structure will save more than 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide and is recyclable and demountable. Nigel Dancey, head of studio at Foster + Partners, said: "This project offers the rare opportunity to give this magnificent building a new lease of life."Bennetts Associates has completed work on a new building for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Southwark, south-east London. The college is relocating from Regent's Park to a site that links two buildings, a converted 19th-century hop warehouse and a 1980s office building, by creating a new atrium. More than 200 staff will be based at the site, which also includes conferencing facilities and a public cafe. The four-storey glazed atrium covers the courtyard space between the buildings and will increase levels of natural light throughout. Others to work on the job include contractor 8build, project manager and QS Burke Hunter Adams and services engineer KJ Tait.
