State is behind nuclear projects under way in UK, Tom Lowe writes HS2 would be China Railway Construction Corporation's (CRCC) first project in the UK, but the state-owned giant has been building major infrastructure projects across the globe. Many are part of President Xi Jinping's $ltn "Belt and Road project," a plan to integrate China with the global economy via huge land and sea networks. Turkey's 533km Ankara to Istanbul high-speed railway connecting the capital with its largest city is CRCC's bridgehead into Europe, while a network in Nigeria to connect Abuja and Lagos with surrounding countries is one of a number of projects in Africa.
