Building sustainable communities

Over the last few days Manchester has been the centre of attention once again. And for once it has nothing to do with either of its football clubs, their visitors, or what they do with their post match refreshments! It has been the venue for a major conference to take forward the government's sustainability agenda, involving all the relevant government departments and the leading industry players. With ministerial support from the deputy prime minister as well as the trade and environment secretaries, it highlights the importance the government attaches to this agenda. It addressed a wide range of policy areas, including planning, waste management and transport, as well as the buildings themselves.
