Increase in air traffic means that people are exposed to more aircraft noise although modern aircraft are quieter than before. To design better aircraft from a sound design point of view, it is necessary to understand how people perceive aircraft noise psychologically and which physical parameters are influential for psychological evaluation. We evaluated psychological responses to aircraft noise by three major perceptual dimensions of sound: annoyance as Evaluation, loudness as Potency, and pitch as Activity. The relationship between psychological responses and physical parameters was determined. Results indicated that sound level, the temporal variation of sound level, and spectral content are significant factors influencing subjective annoyance. Sound level and spectral content also significantly influence subjective loudness. As for subjective pitch, the temporal variation of the sound level and spectral centroid are significantly influential factors.
