Herzog & de Meuron's Tenerife Arts Space has been inaugurated in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands.rnThe 21,000sq m cultural complex has a contemporary art institute named after local artist Oscar Dominguez, a photography centre and a public library. Sponsored by the island's regional government, it has been in development since 1999.rnIt is located along a steep ravine, the Barranco de Santos, which borders the western edge of the city's historic core. The architectrnhas created a public path that descends diagonally through the building from the top of the site to the banks of the Barranco.rnThe route widens at midpoint to form a triangular-shaped entry plaza animated by the restaurant and cafe terrace, the glass walls of which overlook the library's main reading room.
