Funds drive for Pugin's 'perfect' Kent church

An appeal has been launched to raise money to restore a 160-year-old church in Kent designed by AWN Pugin. The Friends of St Augustine's Church in Ramsgate are hoping to raise enough money to start restoration work in April 2012, including improvements to the structure of the building. An appeal was launched at the House of Lords last week. The church received £110,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund in February this year for urgent repairs and maintenance, but campaigners hope to raise up to £1 million to tackle issues including a leaking roof and damage to the church tower.
