Scrapping design and access statements would fail to cut red tape and would instead create additional costs and uncertainty, planners have warned.The statements will cease to be a statutory requirement for most planning applications from next week, but councils have said they would still require the information they provided. Planners have warned that replacing a standard-ised approach with ad hoc arrangements at each authority would merely create confusion.
