FUNDING QUESTIONS DAMPEN BIG PLANS TO IMPROVE COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC FACILITIES

In late August, the powerhouse Southeastern Conference disclosed that all 14 of its member institutions had taken steps to enhance their fans' experiences going into the 2014 college football season. Improvements to stadiums included better availability to concessions, more point-of-sale locations, and upgraded restrooms. Some universities added WiFi for fans in premium seating. The SEC is not alone in its view that its members' facilities need to be state of the art for their programs to sell tickets and successfully recruit top-flight athletes.
