Blackstone Group, which owns Chicago's tallest building, Willis Tower, will invest $500 million in a comprehensive renovation of the 108-story, 1,450-foot tower. The goal: to reinforce the iconic building's position as a civic destination and a "premier workplace," according to Blackstone. The project, which is being led by Gensler, Turner Construction Company, and Clayco, will reconfigure 460,000 sf of existing space, includ- , ing 150,000 sf for new tenant amenities, such as a full-service fitness center, lounges, private event space, and concierge services. More than 300,000 sf of retail, dining, and entertainment space will be added to the base of the tower, and a three-story glass structure will be set atop the existing stone plaza to create a more welcoming environment for visitors.
