DEFRA cash for golf course remediation

DEFRA has awarded Halton Borough Council £2.47m to remediate the soil and groundwater contamination at St Michael's Golf Course in Widnes which was closed to the public in 2005 and later determined as contaminated.rnThe works will include resurfacing part of the old course, creating a new channel for Steward's Brook and building a system to collect leachate from the former chemical waste tip which underlies the site.
