A Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) expert has denounced as "absolute nonsense" developers' fears that such schemes require additional land take. Speaking at the recent Brownfield Briefing SuDS conference in London, Steve Wilson, director of geo-environmental engineering design consultancy Environmental Protection Group said: "Some developers have a problem with SuDS because of land take, but that's absolute nonsense. "If it is master-planned in from scratch, it should not have any extra land take - because the open spaces have already been acquired for a reason. "A well-designed SuDS provides so much more than just water treatment. It's all about functionality, achieved through master planning." Mr Wilson also told the conference SuDS schemes can be used on contaminated sites as long as they are designed carefully by multi-disciplinary teams. "SuDS can be used on all sites," Mr Wilson said. "I've yet to come across a site where you cannot construct an effective SuDS."
