Architects are urging the Government to allow more house building in green belt areas and use the uplift in values from this to fund remediation of brownfield sites. A report Building a Better Britain by the Royal Institute of British Architects aims to set out a vision for the next Government which makes greater use of architects. It says there are huge challenges in meeting sustainability targets by 2020. In a section on brownfield, green belt and urban extensions, the architects argue brownfield development could be enabled by making greenfield development easier. They urge development of low value green belt land around cities.
