The BDA has welcomed a House of Lords report that calls for the Government to raise its housebuilding target by 50% and build 300,000 homes a year to meet the UK's housing need. The cross-party Economic Affairs Committee's Build More Homes report claims the Government's new homes target won't meet demand or moderate house price increases. It criticises the restricted access local authorities have to funding to build more social housing, frequent changes to tax rules and subsidies that create uncertainty in an already dysfunctional housing market, and the narrow focus on home ownership at the expense of those renting.
