IT: The promise versus the reality

Local television stations traditionally have required lots of people — some with highly specialized technical knowledge — to operate and maintain equipment, shoot, edit and produce content and control playback to air of network and locally originated news and entertainment programming. The promise of an information technology (IT) infrastructure at TV stations is straightforward. When compared to business as usual, an IT-centric workflow will improve efficiencies, raise productivity, reduce maintenance and operating expenses and deliver a greater return on investment for station owners.
