With the aim of expanding NHK's sign language broadcasts, we are studying ways of generating Japanese sign language CG animations from written Japanese. We displayed a system that converts Japanese text into a Japanese sign language sentence using translation examples, after which it automatically generates JSL CG animations based on the JSL sentence.We are conducting research on information presentation methods for barrier-free services to enable those with visual impairments to enjoy digital broadcasting. We fabricated a new set-top box (STB) style reception and presentation device with which a user can easily access and comprehend information from a data broadcasting and EPG through an audio or Braille format presentation.
