ABU Tokyo 2019: NHK Hosted General Assembly and Associated Meetings

On November 17 to 22, the 56th ABU*1 General Assembly and Associated Meetings were held in Tokyo, with approximately 500 participants involved in broadcasting from Asia and around the world. The ABU has over 270 members from broadcasting and related organizations in more than 70 countries in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Europe, North Africa, and North America. This was the seventh time the general meeting has been held in Tokyo, and it has been nine years since the previous meeting in 2010. At the opening ceremony, ABU President Ryoichi Ueda, who is also the president of NHK, gave a speech on the theme of the ABU General Assembly, "Building Trust: Enriching Audience Experience," and the significance of holding the meeting in Tokyo. In the technical committee keynote presentation, titled "Future Media - Diverse Vision," the director of NHK STRL, Kohji Mitani, introduced the research at STRL on the future media "Diverse Vision" that STRL aims to achieve around 2030 to 2040.
