American Medical Association endorses consumer products

For the first time in its 150 year history the American Medical Association (AMA) is endorsing consumer products, in a move that has attracted much criticism. Sunbeam, based in Florida, is better known for its kitchen products such as blenders, cake mixers, and toasters, but it also manufactures blood pressure monitors, heating pads, thermometers, humidifiers, and vaporisers. Under the five year deal such products in Sunbeam's "health at home" product line will now bear the AMA's logo to alert consumers that they are designed for healthier living.
