The past two decades have seen the World Bank shift its focus to improving health indicators and attempt to distance itself from highly criticised policies. The efficacy and sustainability of the bank's current policies remain to be demonstrated. The next article in this series examines the bank's sector strategy for health and discusses the bank's relationship with other agencies, such as the world Health Organisation.
