Volkers is first RPS Genix Bursary

The Royal Photographic Society has announced the first winner of its Jeff Vickers Genix Imaging Bursary.Philip Volkers will receive tine first of three ￡15,000 awards, given to help aspiring professional photographers develop their skills by financing their equipment, facilities and travel costs. The two other awards, the Postgraduate Bursary and the Soctiety Event Bursary, support postgraduate students undertaking photographic research and young photographers looking for funding to attend selected events.Genix Imaging's chairman, Jeff Vickers, launched the Imaging Bursary to mark the 50th year of his career as a photographer. 'I know how difficult it can be for young photographers, and I hope these bursaries will inspire and encourage them, and give their careers a flying start,' he says.Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 bursary.The deadline is 15 May 2009.
