Trolley continues, without its founder, facing forwards

"The day he was diagnosed was the day when nothing would ever be the same again," says Hannah Watson, recalling 20 June last year, when her partner in Trolley Books and T] Boulting Gallery, Gigi Giannuzzi, learned he had terminal cancer. "That was the day when the rug was pulled from beneath our feet, so by the time he passed away on Christmas Eve, it was already clear what was going to happen, and what had to be done." First came an exhibition, celebrating Giannuzzi's life and work through the past decade of books he made with photographers and artists ranging from Stanley Greene to Robert Gordon McHarg. Then came Trolleyology, the book, pulling together the many and varied people who worked with him and saw Trolley as more than a mere publisher - as a friend, a comrade, a place to party, a call to action. Watson is keen to stress that the reason to publish wasn't so much nostalgia as passing on the flame for others to carry on Giannuzzi's work and his spirit of independence, admitting he wasn't keen on the idea of the retrospective planned before his death.
