A 18-year-old US ban on media coverage of dead soldiers' homecomings came to an end last week when journalists and photographers were allowed to cover the return of the remains of Air Force Staff Sergeant Phillip Myers of Hopewell in Virginia.Media members gained access to the Dover Air Force base in Delaware to cover the ceremonies dedicated to the dead soldier. Photographers were given permission by Myers' family, according to the new rules imposed by the US Department of Defense.Last February, in a reversal to 18 years of stringent policies, the Pentagon announced that journalists and photographers would now be allowed to cover the homecomings of war dead after a review by Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
