I thank Paul Boghossian for his thoughtful, exploratory comments (BJA 50 (2010) pp.71-76). His remarks surely merit a sharper delineation of the position I sketched in ‘The Perception of Music: Sources of Significance’ (BJA 49 (2009), pp. 257-275); and that is what I attempt here.
