Dry weather sparks rise in wheat futures prices

UK wheat futures are up, trading at a noticeable premium to maize, according to the Home Grown Cereal Authority (HCGA), fol lowing dry weather concerns. Wheat was trading at £158 per tonne (for November 2012 deliv ery) on the Liffe futures market as British Baker went to press, while July figures stand at £177 per tonne. Concerns over the effect of dry weather in the US, Russia and Australia have seen wheat futures overtake maize for the first time in a year, said the HGCA.
