Dominant roof dormers for converted residential building

Over the last few decades, storey extensions and loft conversions have contributed to residential consolidation in built-up areas, creating much sought-after housing. An interesting example of this is the concept realized in Penzinger Strasse in Vienna, not far from Schönbrunn. Here in the outskirts of the city, a typical ensemble of buildings for mixed residential and commercial use from different building eras has been converted and the entire properties rearranged. The single-storey street block was erected around the end of the 18~(th) century and the build-on of additional storeys was not permitted. In close consultation with the Office for the Preservation of Historical Buildings, a very striking loft conversion was realized. The roof pitch was substantially increased to enable the creation of two storeys, with light coming from dominant dormer windows. The arrangement of the windows is derived from the interior room structure. In the first roof storey, they are installed pair wise, above this as single windows. Not only the square front side is glazed, but the skylight too, so sufficient light can enter the rooms.
